With our first game at 12:30, some may choose to drive up Saturday morning instead of Friday night.  I have talked to the Hotel Group-Sales coordinator, and she has been very good to work with. At this time, all our names have been sent from CESA to the Fairfield Inn, and we have individual confirmation numbers. If you want to cancel Friday night, call 864-527-6122. Make sure she knows you just want to cancel just Friday and not the entire weekend. You may want to wait until early next week to verify that the schedules still haven't changed. However, you may not want to wait until the last minute because these rooms were secured via contract.

New Fall Practice Schedule

Starting next week (Aug 18)

Parents and Players, I have to make a change in the practice schedule for the fall. This will free me up for an early training time with the Academy players on Thursdays.

Tues 5:30-7:00 U15's
7:00-8:30 U18's

Wed 5:30-7:00 U15's
7:00-8:30 U18's

Thurs 7:00-8:30 (Both Teams)

With the new schedule I can have 2 separate practices with both teams and also allow each player 3 training sessions a week. Please note that practice times may run over an extra 15 mins each session. So that you know on Mondays and Thursdays I will be coaching the Academy in the early time slot and on Mondays I will be assisting older girls and boys teams in the later slot.

Thanks

No practice during July

Just FYI in case you didn't hear.  Joel will be out of town for most of July.  There will be no specific training for our team until early August.  Joel may pass along optional training opportunities (such as other CoastFA teams, etc.) if you want to participate.

I think we'll probably start back during the first week of August.  More details later.

Aiken Soccer tournament - Hotel info

John has discovered that Aiken is basically booked up. He found a block of 15 rooms at the Holiday Inn Express in Aiken.
The deadline (Fri 7/27) for holding these has expired, but it is possible other people/teams have rooms held that they will not lock in. So by checking with this hotel, you may be able to still get a room if you missed the 7/27 deadline.

Click here for Hotel details (The reviews I read at Travelocity looked very favorable.)

The tournament is Aug 25/26.

Initial fall league information

Our league application has been submitted for the fall. Our league bracket is U13 - U14 CHALLENGE. So far, this bracket includes the following seven other teams:
1. MPSC 93 Boys Elite (SC)
2. CUFC 94 Elite (SC)
3. Bridge FA 94 Gold (SC)
4. Bridge FA 93 Red (DC)
5. CESA 94 Boys Premier (SC)
6. CESA 94 Challenge (SC)
7. CUFC Columbia United 93 Boys Elite (SC)
The season runs from August 18 - November 18. We were allowed to request three BYE weekends which we used in anticipation of the following tournaments:
Aug 25-26 (for the Aiken Cup)
Oct 13-14 (for the local YMCA tournament)
Nov 17-18 (for the Lake Norman tournament or the CASL shootout)
We are hoping that no other teams will want to play on Aug 18. Sept 1 is not a league weekend due to Labor Day.
The scheduling meeting is August 5, and the schedule will be finalized by August 12. (At that point, we'll know our open dates, and would also be able to make tournament substitutions, if desired, using other open dates.)
This e-mail, and others with important info throughout the season, will be posted at http://soccer.turbeville.org/

Meeting minutes from tonight's parent meeting

1. Goalie situation: They have several things they are working on. Ross listed the following:
    a) They've contacted Kendel H. He is a U13 that plays catcher and goalie for the Christian Academy. He will come to practice next week for a tryout.
    b) Posted goalie request on SC Soccer website. Joel reports that 150 folks have viewed the request so far.
    c) Kevin Mc. (with US Club) soccer is actively looking for US Club players moving to or living near the area.
    d) Talking to area JV coaches
    e) Possible partnership with Aiken Soccer Club

2. Kevin Mc. (above) has put us in touch with a kid moving here in August from California -- not a goalie.  He plays at the gold level and will try out.

3. We will train on Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 to 7:00 until July 5th.  Then we'll be off until August.

4. Ross will get back to MB on August 10, and fall training will start on August 14.

5. During the season, we'll train on Tuesday and Thursday.  5:30 - 7:30.  On Tuesday's, Ross will do technical training. On Thursday's, Joel will do tactical training.  They will be coaching from a syllabus.

6. Fall tournaments: looking at doing 3 or 4
a) Aiken Cup   or    Adidas Shootout (Greensboro)  - both near late Aug/early Sep
b) YMCA Carolina Shootout    or    Charleston Shootout (Mt. Pleasant) - October
c) CASL Shootout (Raleigh) and/or Lake Norman Classic - November

7. On-line registration: Please do this ASAP so they can get a firm count of who's playing. http://www.coastfa.com/enroll/
Kit Fee  $125
Payment Schedule:
$350 + Kit due Jun 5th
$225 due July 1st
$225 due Aug 1st
8. Medical release forms: please get these in by next week.  http://www.coastfa.com/enroll/0000000026.html
Give to me, Ross, or mail to:   Coast FA  /  628 Chestnut Road   / Myrtle Beach, SC 29572
Must be notarized; needs a raised seal or a stamp for travel across state lines.

9. Uniform: We will be getting new uniforms (except for the guys that played U14 last year).  These will be the same style that all the other CoastFA teams wear. CoastFA will provide these.  I think they're the Adidas Squadra II  (or similar.)

League games start Saturday

I'm sure everyone is aware of the games this weekend, but since it has been a while since we've actually had a league game, I thought I'd send a reminder.

The schedule isn't ideal:  10:30 and 3:00  (be there around 9:30 for warm-up), but the field locations are good.  These are the NECSA fields just off of I-20 & Clemson Rd near Spring Valley Church.

Field Location  for the GPS folks:
170 Sparkleberry Lane
Columbia, SC 29229

Can-Am Cup information

The YMCA Can-Am Cup website can be found at: http://www.gsfymca.org/gsfymca_021.htm

The schedules still say tentative, but ours hasn't changed in over a week. Hopefully it is the final schedule. Our fields are on the Airbase and are listed as AFB and #10.  The Y tells me that both fields are at the corner of Myers and Farrow.  #10 is supposed to be the full-size field.  So it looks like the games will NOT be at Swallow.

Normal training schedule resumes

Beginning this Tuesday [Jan 16], we'll go back to the normal two-hour practices.

Tue / Thur : 5:30 - 7:30
Socastee Park

Sunday, January 07, 2007

Training and spring info

Training will begin again this week. Ross is out-of-town on another trip, so we'll have Joel Banta as coach.
Socastee Park
Tue: 5:30 - 7:00 3v3
Thur 5:30 - 7:00 regular training

Also, some brief spring season info. We're looking at two tournaments (not sure which two, plus State Cup).
Pre-season (before Feb 17)
- Considering tournaments on Feb 3 and Feb 10

During season (Feb 17 - May 5)
- Considering tournaments on Mar 10, Mar 17, and Apr 21
- State Cup May 5

I think Apr 21 looks like a definite; the timing is good as a warm-up to State Cup. So, we'll be choosing one additional tournament among the other dates mentioned above (2/3, 2/10, 3/10, 3/17)
