State cup play-in (updated and revised!)

There is a great change for us.  I wish I had a snapshot of the league page a few days ago to see exactly what happened.  There must have been a scoring error which was later corrected.  SCUFC 93 Boys Elite has changed to 19 points (tied with us). With tie breaking procedures, we are now the 5th place team in the league (7th overall).

This now puts us playing Palmetto United Premier (formally Carolina Select.)  This was the team that beat us in in round 1 of State Cup last year.  We will likely be playing in Rock Hill instead of Greenville.

Here are the Play-in game pairings:

They have also decided to extend the play-in game range to include two weekends. Games may be played 11/27 to 12/4.  The higher seeded team gets to pick the venue while both coaches agree on date and time.

Upcoming League & State-cup Info

The league results are in, and we ended up in 6th place.  6th place is the last playoff position.
http://scysa.demosphere.com/teams/28000866/29283982-28000965/TEAM.html

The two Region III Premier teams (CESA and Palmetto United / formerly Carolina Select club) will come back for State Cup and complete the 8-team playoff bracket.   CESA is ranked higher in the Region III standings, so they will be #1.

Once the top teams are added, we'll be seeded #8. By the rules: "23-c. The highest seeded teams through number 4 will play their first round match at their home field."  It appears we will be traveling to Greenville on Dec 4th to play CESA Premier.

National Cup X Regional: Atlanta, Ga - hotel & tournament info

Sorry for the length of this e-mail.  Our team has been invited to play in the US Club regional tournament in Atlanta on October 9-10.  http://www.soccerincollege.com/TTIntro3.aspx?tid=USCLUBN&tab=1&sub=0   This will take the place of the previously planned Virginia Beach tournament.

Travel arrangements are being handled by Anthony Travel of Atlanta.  They have identified four hotels near the tournament fields for this event. By clicking on this link you can see the hotels and some basic info on the Anthony Travel web page. You can book on-line or call Anthony Travel at (800) 736-6377.   This chart shows a hotel comparison as well as distances to the fields: Hotel Amenities Comparison

I wanted to get everyone at the Homewood Suites ($89, TripAdvisor Rating) but there were only three double-bed suites left.  I got a room here and blocked the other two for our team.  (They have plenty of king suites with a pull out sofa bed if that will suite your travel needs.)

The U14 team (and Joel, I think) are staying at the Courtyard ($99, TripAdvisor Rating) so I blocked the rest of our rooms over there. I suppose the Courtyard will be the "official" team hotel, but if you prefer the Homewood or another property, those are available too.  Both of these hotels are off of I-85, but at different exits.  (As another option, the Marriott Norcross for $74 (rating) looks pretty good, but it is further from the fields and is not right on the interstate; I did not check on availability.)  All hotels will have complimentary breakfast for the tournament regardless of their day-to-day policies.

These rooms are blocked only until Friday September 17.  After that that time, you can still book on-line or by phone, but your hotel of choice, or room choice, may or may not be available.

I'd recommend doing this ASAP, especially if you're interested in the Homewood.

U17 Hurricane tournament update

Below find some updated season/tournament info from Joel, along with updated ranking status for our team.

-------- Original Message --------
From: joelbanta@aol.com

Parents and Players,

These are the current tournaments that the U17 players will be attending. Gregg will be attaching some information that you may want to follow through with. This is the season where coaches really view players at these events(junior/senior year's) and that is why we are taking this team to better events than last year. In the event that college coaches watch us play, it would be an excellent opportunity to give them information on your son. Please take the time to do this it is important to have(resume).Formal training will start on August 16th at 7pm. For that week and the next we will train four nights in a row (Mon-Thurs). We will also be scrimmaging the U18's every week. During those first two weeks, we will scrimmage them on a Saturday mornings (TBA). When school starts we will be going back to Mon, Wed and Thursday nights (7-8:30). Also remember I am running a fitness and technique camp for the next two weeks(mon-thurs 6pm-7:30) cost is 5 dollars each night. See you soon.

Player Resume Info

It has been suggested to have these available at tournaments for college coaches  for any player wishing to provide one.  We can have one parent volunteer to coordinate this (collect resumes, make copies, distribute), or we can simply to the "do it yourself" approach.
Do-it-yourself method:  complete a resume for your son.   Provide me with multiple copies prior to each tournament. I'll group them together and have them available for tournament officials/college coaches, etc.  (We don't really have club funds to pay for the copies, printouts, etc. so this method spreads the work and expense among the parents/players who are interested.)  No obligation, no deadline. Opt-in or opt-out throughout the season as desired.
Contact me if you need a copy of the resume template.

Fall 2010 League info for 93 Hurricanes

The CoastFA staff have selected tournaments for the fall, and I have just completed the on-line application process for our team.  The fall schedule will be determined at the August 8 scheduling meeting.  I can pass along the following information at this time.

League games may start as early as August 21 and will be completed by November 13.  We have blocked the following dates and planned the following tournaments:
Aug 21:  BYE#1  (to delay the start of league play)
Sept 4/5 Labor Day weekend:  planning a major tournament in either Atlanta (Atlanta Cup, if accepted) or Greensboro Adidas Labor Day Shootout.
Oct 9/10: BYE#2 - to allow us to attend the Virginia Beach Columbus Day tournament
Nov 6/7: BYE#3 - to allow us to attend the Peachbelt Tournament in Aiken (College Showcase)

As you know, we had a very good finish in State Cup last fall. This has improved our national ranking and given us opportunity for some of the higher level tournaments.  We were actually ranked a little higher last week, but currently we are 4th in SC, 30th in Region III, and 40th Nationally.
http://www.soccerincollege.com/sicteam.aspx?id=SCM94032&club=SC005

Additional planning info:  If planning to take the SAT this fall, there is an available date in December (Dec 4).
http://sat.collegeboard.com/register/sat-dates

Once the fall schedule is determined, complete travel and tournament expenses will be determined (as we did last year), and this money will be collected in advance to fund the team checking account.  This account will be used for tournament application fees, mileage reimbursement, per diem, etc.

As always, this e-mail  -- as well as other important e-mails -- will be posted to our team blog at http://soccer.turbeville.org/  Bookmark that page and refer to it as needed during the season.
